We got there at half five, which felt far too early until we saw the terrace.
It runs the whole length of the building under a green and cream awning, about ten minutes up the avenue from the Bois de la Cambre. We took a table near the front and a bottle of rosé. Sun coming through the canvas, just enough breeze to make the shade worth having, and no real reason to go anywhere. The staff worked hard around us the entire time, which made sitting still feel slightly indulgent.
The sea bream was 29,60 and worth it. We stayed through dessert.
What we only worked out afterwards is what this house is actually known for. The grey shrimp croquette, made by Fernand Duarte, voted best in Brussels in 2022 and again in 2023, from a recipe they have not changed since the doors opened. Thirteen euros for one.
So we are going back for that. Same terrace, colder month, nothing else on the table.
Croquette or the fish, what would you have done?
