Paddo Saint Maurice

We got to Paddo Saint Maurice at two in the afternoon, which in most of Lille means lunch is over.

Not here. It is an Australian café a short walk from Lille Flandres, and the brunch card runs all day: the kitchen goes from eight straight through until four. At two the room was still full of people eating.

We sat on the terrace, opposite the church of Saint-Maurice, and had the Turkish eggs and one of the brioche rolls. The eggs are the ones we would go back for, and at 16,50 it is a proper plate rather than a photograph of one.

One thing worth knowing: the card moves. The Turkish eggs were on it in July and they are not on the version online now, so either we got lucky or they are off for the season.

On the way out we noticed the church sitting in their front window. Sydney and Saint-Maurice in the same pane of glass.

Open daily 8am to 5pm, kitchen closes at 4pm. No reservations. If the original at the Treille is full, they will send you the six minutes down here.

So if you get there before we go back: are the Turkish eggs still on the card?
